Elderly Health
The number of elderly people in the Northern Beaches area is increasing, and often with older age managing health care becomes increasingly complex. We encourage you to book an over 75y annual health care check with our practice nurse, which is a comprehensive and fully Medicare funded long appointment.

A key part of our role may be coordinating different health services for you, including referrals and accessing allied health- we can prepare a care plan for you to assist with this. We work closely with our colleagues at the Northern Beaches Hospital and Mona Vale Hospital where community teams can help with falls prevention, geriatric cognitive assessments and palliative care if needed.

Home visits may be arranged for our regular local patients who are very ill or those with a disability. If you require a home visit please ring reception and ask to discuss with your doctor. Visits are subject to the doctor’s availability and may attract additional fees.
Mens Health
We can perform assessments for fitness to work, travel or sport. We would like to offer you a health check including blood pressure and heart disease risk factors, screening for bowel cancer, testicular or prostate problems.

Our doctors are experienced in discussing sexual concerns and sexual health screening, including erectile dysfunction.
Mental Health
Good mental health is paramount to good physical health and all of our doctors can help with stress, anxiety, depression or any other concerns you may have.

We work closely with local clinical psychologists and if necessary we can help with a GP Mental Health Plan which enables access to Medicare funding for psychologists – please book a long appointment with your GP.
Immunisation & Travel Advice
Prevention of disease is a cornerstone of General Practice, with immunisation against preventable disease being integral to this. We provide all childhood vaccines under the Australian Immunisation Program as well as seasonal Influenza vaccination, adult Pneumonia and Shingles vaccinations, Tetanus boosters and a range of travel vaccines including Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid and Yellow Fever.

We recommend that all pregnant women (and close family members) have Influenza vaccination as well as a Pertussis (whooping cough) booster from 20 -28 weeks gestation. For vaccine administration, please book a nurse appointment.

For those travelling overseas, we recommend a GP appointment with your full travel itinerary, ideally more than 4 weeks prior to departure. We will then create an individual immunisation schedule and advise about any other risks including malaria prevention and prescription of medication if needed, and review any pre-existing medical conditions.
Management of Long Term Conditions
Gilbert Collins Medical Practice provides a full range of chronic disease care, including diabetes checks, management of heart disease and high blood pressure, asthma management plans and help with other long term illnesses including medication reviews. We work closely with local hospital teams to support cancer care.

Our experienced practice nurse can help with regular reviews, including GP Management Plans to optimise long term health and health care planning including access to Medicare funded allied health practitioners such as dietitians, physiotherapists and podiatrists.

Iron & Aclasta Infusions
We offer in-clinic infusion treatments, including iron infusions and Aclasta infusions, administered under medical supervision in a safe, comfortable environment.

Iron infusions are used to quickly restore low iron levels when oral supplements are not effective, helping relieve symptoms such as fatigue and dizziness.
​
Aclasta is a once-yearly infusion used to treat osteoporosis and other bone conditions by strengthening bones and reducing fracture risk. Speak with your GP to see if these treatments are suitable for you.
